AP Librae, a violent optical variable similar to BL Lac, is found to
have a redshift of z = 0.0486 and to consist of a galaxy with V
magnitude of -21.4, and an unresolved, starlike core contributing about
70% of the total light in the V band. The colors of the quasi-stellar
core, B - V = +0.3, U - B = -0.6, are typical of QSOs.
