A study was conducted to verify the presence of intermediate age stars within the field of the Fornax dwarf galaxy and to attempt to confirm the very large metallicity interval among the various globular clusters which this galaxy contains. If this interval is found to be real, it would be then possible to make use of it to calibrate the Sandage Oosterhoff effect which links the metallicity of an old population to the luminosity of its horizontal branch. Color magnitude diagrams are produced of the different regions observed in order to determine, using isochronous curves, the different parameters of the stellar populations in question. It is concluded that the Fornax field is populated with intermediate age stars of which the youngest have about 1 Ga. The absence of a blue horizontal branch indicates that there are no old stars (greater than 10 Ga). This population of the field also shows a large metallicity interval, Fe/H less than -1 and greater than -2. As for the clusters, they are probably very old (presence of a blue horizontal branch) and poor in metals. The metallicity interval among them is perhaps not as large as believed.
