The variation of the azimuthal shape of spiral arms is estimated through numerical models simulating a two-armed spiral perturbation in galactic disks. Significant changes as a function of perturbation amplitude and location relative to resonances are found. Models with radial force perturbations larger than 5 percent show significant nonlinear effects. These results are compared with observations of NGC 5247 in the K-prime filter, which indicates that its spiral perturbation is nonlinear.
