A new algorithm for illustrating symmetric structure in galaxies was recently applied to a sample of 18 spirals (Elmegreen et al. 1992). The results were analyzed in terms of spiral-wave resonances using observed or generic rotation curves (scaled with absolute magnitude), and shown to provide some foundation to the expectation that spiral features with m-fold symmetry in azimuth lie primarily between the m:l Lindblad resonances. Here we say a bit more about this method.
