Calculations of the total dielectronic recombination (DR) rate coefficients for S(q+) (q = 1-5) ions were carried out over T = 3 x 10 to the 4th to 10 to the 6th K, in the low-density limit (the conditions applicable to the Io plasma torus), using the AUTOSTRUCTURE computer codes described by Badnell (1986) and Badnell and Pindzola (1989). The results of the DR rate coefficients obtained for sulfur ions are compared with those of the general formula (GF) of Burgess (1965), obtained using the same oscillator strengths. It was found that the GF overestimates the rate coefficients for S(q+) by factors of 6.1, 1.22, 1.09, 1.66, and 1.31 for q values of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively.
