The first phase of electron acceleration during solar flares can occur in high-temperature turbulent current sheets (CS). The acceleration process depends to a large extent on the magnetic field topology in the CS, i.e. the presence of transverse and longitudinal (with respect to the electric current) field components. It is shown that the longitudinal component greatly enhances the acceleration efficiency. The particle motion in CS is due to turbulent diffusion. Under favorable conditions, the electrons are capable of gaining an energy of the order of 100 keV within a time period of 0.01 s.
