A large-scale magnetospheric current system is analyzed in order to study the global structure of the magnetosphere of rotation-powered pulsars. Local models are constructed for the magnetosphere parts with adjustable free parameters, and they are linked to a global model by imposing global link conditions. The operating points of the magnetospheric current system are obtained for pulsars with various periods, with global structures of the magnetosphere thus being attained. The outer gap is found to be an indispensable element for the magnetospheric current circuit. The plasma is strongly accelerated in the pulsar wind so that its kinetic energy flux becomes comparable with the electromagnetic energy flux. As the rotation slows down, operating points disappear. The operating points of the Crab pulsar show that about 99.4 percent of the total pulsar power is carried away by the pulsar wind, and the remaining power is radiated from the inner and outer gaps. The evolution of the magnetospheric structure is also discussed.
