Previous observations and interpretations of spectropolarimetry of the type-2 Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068 are validated and extended. Specifically, imaging polarimetry reveals the existence of a highly polarized knot some 4.7 arcsec to the northeast of the nucleus, and spectropolarimetric observations of the knot indicate that it is a dusty region reflecting light from the nucleus. The observational data are used to constrain a theoretical model for the electron-scattering region. A conical electron-scattering region is assumed, and it is found that a cone-opening half-angle of about 30 deg viewed from an angle of 32 deg is consistent with the observations, with the inner radius of the scattering region about 10 to the 20th cm from the nucleus, the electron density about 400-600/cu cm, and the mean electron temperature about 200,000 to 300,000 K. It is suggested that, since the luminosity necessary to maintain the required ionization level is larger than the observed bolometric luminosity, the continuum source is inherently anisotropic.
