The storms in Jupiter's atmosphere have undergone significant changes over the past decade. The merger of the three white ovals into Oval BA and its subsequent color change appear to be correlated to periodic interactions with the Great Red Spot (GRS). Our goal is to understand if the nature of these interactions is unique or generic. We apply principal components analysis (PCA) to the interactions of Oval BA and the GRS, to identify relationships between latent physical variables of the spatially and temporally changing systems. Our initial analysis is applied to near-infrared data acquired from NASA/InfraRed Telescope Facility (IRTF) and University of Hawaii (UH). We will present our model results for each of four major epochs in the interaction of these storms: (I) pre-1997, three white ovals were present (FA, DE and BC); (II) 1997 - 1999, following the merger of DE and BC; (III) 2000 - 2004, formation of oval BA and (IV) post-2005, color change of oval BA. As time permits, we will include data sets from other sources such as HST, Galileo/NIMS and VLT. The research was supported by CIT/Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) and from a grant from Planetary Atmospheres Program.
