The Baptistina family is located in the inner edge of the Main Belt. It is a medium-sized family In terms which is noticeable because of the peculiar mixture of taxonomies that is found among its components [1]: although only 9 have a taxonomic classification, their distribution is compatible with the disruption of a differentiated asteroid (V-, A-, S- and X-type). A recent dynamical study [2] suggests, however , that the object associated to the K/T boundary was a fragment generated by the collision that created the Baptistina family. Since sediment layers suggest that the K/T impactor had a primitive, possibly CM2 like composition [3], such association is incompatible with the formation of the family from a differentiated parent body. This possible association of the Baptistina family with the K/T event was subsequently weakened by NIR spectra of its largest member (298) Baptistina that show olivine/pyroxene bands which are incompatible with a CM2-like composition. Here we present three complementary lines of investigation with the intent of shedding some light on the nature of this intriguing family: 1) determination of the albedo, slope parameter, size and thermal inertia of (298) Baptistina, using MIR observations and ground-based photometry; 2) analysis of the distribution of taxonomies in the vicinity of the family from an increased sample of VIS spectra and also using a taxonomic scheme based on the SDSS colors and 3) detailed dynamical analysis of the region in order to have a precise determination of the Baptistina family, a vital need here since previous study of the region [3] show that the region around Baptistina is crossed by a very complicated net of mean motion and secular resonances. These resonances make the identification of the family very difficult and even cast doubts on the actual existence of a dynamical family.
