Observational evidence for rather strong activity in 4 short period population II binaries is presented. All the sample stars show Ca II core emission and filled-in H-alpha profiles and at least one was detected in X-rays by the Rosat satellite, being the first population II coronal source ever detected. It is argued that binarity is the key parameter enhancing the activity in these objects; results corroborate that the active stars recently found in the core of M 15 are binaries. Activity may influence the determination of some of the stellar physical parameters and various implications are discussed.
