A comparison of several different methods for distributing landers on Mars in order to establish a science network is presented. A science network of several micro landers with roughly Beagle2's size evenly distributed on the Mars surface is believed to be one of the next logical steps of Mars exploration. With such a network, important scientific research can be done on a global scale. An optimized distribution method is one of the design drivers for a successful network mission. The comparison is based mainly on the calculation of propellant, propulsion system and heat shield masses. For the atmospheric entry simulation, a numerical integrator was programmed. In the beginning, the scientific and technological restraints for a Mars network are discussed. Next follows a short review of aeroassist technologies. Launch systems and windows are presented and evaluated and the trans Mars injection propellant need is calculated. The main part consists of the presentation of the several possible methods together with their advantages and disadvantages, namely 1. classical impulsive Mars orbit insertion, 2. carrier and/or lander aeroassist manoeuvres, 3. passive lander separation near Mars' sphere of influence, 4. varying lander geometries and 5. free flying landers. Special attention is paid to trajectory clustering in order to achieve additional and low cost redundancy. The result shows that differences between most of the methods are small. Some methods could be identified as clearly disadvantageous, though. Further research on the remaining options is suggested.
