An engineering structural optimization methodology of Whipple Shields is developed designed to defeat hypervelocity impacts of meteoroids and space debris. The major unique of the optimization model presented in the paper is that Hypervelocity Impact Physical Model based on One-Dimension Impact Theory is incorporated into the previous optimization model. A space debris environment model is incorporated into an overall optimization methodology. And the determination of the initial optimization point and the geometric limitations of the design variables are added in the design process. The calculated results are compared with that of experimental optimization model.
