Recent progress in infrared astronomy has been very rapid because of the
introduction of two dimensional detector arrays. Practical experience in
using these arrays has changed the techniques and outcomes of infrared
astronomical research profoundly. In this paper those changes are
illustrated by an assortment of images and spectra.
