We have obtained deep R and near-IR J and K band images of 50 arcmin(2) of high latitude sky. These images taken with the KPNO 4m reach limits of J=22.5 and K=21. The J-K colors of faint field galaxies are discussed. In particular, the J-K colors appears to be a useful discriminant for identifying high redshift galaxies (z>1.5) with spectral energy distributions similar to those of weakly evolved early type galaxies. Such galaxies appear very red in J-K because the 4000 Angstroms break moves through the J band. The numbers and luminosities of such objects will be discussed and compared to galaxy evolution models.
