We have obtained spectrophotometry and UBVRI photometry of a number of "E+A" galaxies previously identified in the literature, spanning the redshift range 0.1≲zgtrsim 0.5. We present the results of differential spectral synthesis models, which test the hypothesis that these objects are the result of recently concluded starburst events superposed on evolved stellar populations. We also compare the distant E+A's with nearby merging galaxies that appear to be in a post-starburst evolutionary phase, and discuss the validity of categorizing E+A's as a distinct class of objects.
