The connection between radio spectra and signs of tidal gravity interaction is investigated for a sample of 40 powerful radio galaxies with strong emission lines with optical morphologies studied by Smith and Heckman (1989). It is shown that the spectral characteristics of radio galaxies with or without detected signs of mergers or tidal interaction features differ essentially in that the latter much more frequently have curved steep HF radio spectra. The difference in the spectra of the two groups of radio galaxies is consistent with the assumption that high-power radio sources originate as a result of the merger of galaxies or strong tidal interaction between them.
