Recent developments in understanding networks of cosmic strings are reviewed. It is concluded that structure with a very small length-scale forms on the string network. This structure which is considered to be inevitable may provide an explanation for the effects seen in the numerical simulations. It might also have important consequences for the amount of gravitational radiation emitted from the string network, and for galaxy formation scenarios.
