The stability of stratified general-relativistic configurations is investigated in the context of configurations having a phase transition as part of a study to determine whether a phase transition can occur in neutron star material. The regions of stability are determined for the simplest case of two incompressible fluids in each of two states (one state with a density discontinuity at the surface and the other state with a density discontinuity inside the star at the phase boundary). The relativity correction is shown to expand their region of stability. Numemrical estimates are obtained for the case of rhoc/rho = 7 (where c refers to the core).
