Using ESO 3.6 m plates and the Berkeley PDS microphotometer, 63 diffuse objects have been identified which have colors, magnitudes, shapes, and sizes appropriate to members of the globular cluster system surrounding NGC 253. It is concluded that of this number only a few are 'classical' globular clusters, the rest being more distant elliptical galaxies masquerading as globulars. If the globular clusters in NGC 253 are distributed as they are in the Galaxy, the total number in NGC 253 is estimated to be no more than 30 and more likely 15, considerably less than what might be expected on the basis of the number of globulars found around M33 but very similar in quantity to what was found around NGC 55. There appear to be very few if any 'blue globulars' such as are found in abundance around the Magellanic Clouds.
