The likelihood that SNC meteorites and certain other meteorites originated on Mars is assessed. The results of isotopic analyses are reviewed, and possible physical mechanisms by which the meteorites could escape from Mars and reach earth are examined. The implications of a Martian origin for the study of the solar system's evolution are addressed.
