Recently, galaxy seeding has received wide attention: it was proved that cosmic strings deform the background geometry so that their path and shape become fully geodesic. The resulting onset of such privileged directions cannot take place on length scales which are small compared to the Hubble scale. For GUT strings, this path can be derived from the Nambu action. The author focuses on the gravitational analogues of the Dirac strings and shows that their cohomological structure (and related angle defect), which originates in the fictitious monopole source, gives rise to families of strings of the above type, thus providing a gravitational seeding scenario.
