Single and multiple cycle fluorescence calculations analyzing the B-X system of S2 among the IUE spectra of Comet IRAS-Araki-Alcock 1983VII show that fluorescent equilibrium accounts for these spectra. It is thereby confirmed that emission peaks in the 3000-4000 A range of ground-based spectra are due to the B-X bands. It is suggested that the collisional effects exerted by neutrals, electrons, and ions on the S2 spectra are minor by comparison with those of pure fluorescence.
