It has been shown that the periodic variations in UT1 due to the zonal-tides deformation of the earth depend, through the scaling factor k/C (defined as the ratio between the effective Love number k and the effective moment of inertia C), on the elasticity of the mantle, the decoupling of the fluid core from the mantle, and the ocean tidal response. In this paper, the fortnightly (Mf) and monthly (Mm) zonal waves in the earth's rotation are analyzed in order to obtain their scaling factor k/C from several UT1-TAI time series as derived by different techniques, during the time period 1962.0-1989.3. The estimated values for k/C were found to be consistent with the theoretical evaluations of the frequency-dependent effect of anelasticity of the mantle on the long-period Love number (Wahr and Bergen, 1986).
