Scientific paper

This paper describes the Rosat (for the German word Roentgensatellit) facility, a spaceborne observatory for astronomical observations which was launched on June 1, 1990. Special attention is given to the two Rosat telescopes, the X-ray telescope (XRT) and the XUV-telescope called Wide Field Camera (WFC). The WFC is coaligned with the XRT. The results of the spacecraft checkout (from June 1 to June 17) showed that the telescope operations were as expected.
