Senior high school students in Japan learn astronomy as a part of subject "Earth science", if any. Due to recent, drastic decrease of the number of senior high schools where "Earth science" lectures are given, the majority of students have few chance of learning astronomy. Such a terrible situation is discussed, together with some analysis of the causes and also with suggestions on which the Astronomical Society of Japan and its members can improve the bad consequences.
