Radiative Transfer: Nebulae, Luminosities: Nebulae, Central Stars: Nebulae

Scientific paper

The problem of radiation transfer in a homogeneous spherical nebula of an optical radius χ has been considered under the condition that the nebula is illuminated by a central star. The integro-differential equation for the intensity of the diffuse radiation emerging from the nebula has been given. This equation is used to obtain asymptotic formulae for the intensity of the radiation emerging from the nebula and for the nebula luminosity in the case of χ ≫ 1. The asymptotic expression for the reflection coefficient of the nebula derived in the previous paper (see Abstr. 52.063.079) has been also used. Values of the luminosity calculated by means of the asymptotic formula have been compared with its exact values. This comparison has shown that the asymptotic formulae obtained in the present paper are sufficienctly accurate even in the case of not too large values of χ.
