Line Broadening: Methane

Hydrogen and helium pressure induced broadening and line shifts of the ν4 band of isotopic methane (13CH4) have been measured at room temperature for many lines in the P, Q and R branches. The measurements were obtained using the 1 m Fourier Transform Spectrometer at the KPNO McMath Solar Telescope with a spectral resolution of 0.0065 cm-1. Data were obtained for 266 absorption lines for a range of J values up to J = 16; the pressure broadening results are compared to similar measurements made for the common isotope 12CH4 and a small, but consistent variation is noted.
