A problem of the production of secondary nuclei is analyzed by using the theory of cosmic-ray diffusion and nuclear fragmentation in the cloudy interstellar medium. Focus is placed on numerical calculations for the arbitrary transparency of the giant molecular clouds. An equation for cosmic-ray density is used in the calculations instead of the standard leaky-box relation; this equation includes the effect of finite transparency of a giant molecular cloud to the diffusing relativistic nuclei. Attention is given to the total fraction of galactic cosmic-ray sources inside the clouds and the fraction of the whole mass of the interstellar gas in the giant molecular clouds. The calculations predict a small underproduction of light secondaries such as He3 as compared to the leaky-box approach.
