Observed characteristics of Halley's Comet itself are described as a sequel to reported characteristics of its motion. A wedge of material emanating in the general direction of the sun appears to oscillate about an axis toward the sun. Two hypotheses designed to explain the behavior of material leaving the nucleus of the comet are discussed: the existence of an ether whose density relative to that of comet particles determines their behavior, and the existence of a (polar) force different from the sun's normal gravitational attraction. The behavior of Halley's Comet and several others appears to favor the latter hypothesis.
