The existing observational material of cosmological significance is reviewed. It is found that because of the general acceptance of the Big Bang hypothesis a large number of ad hoc assumptions were made in order to accommodate the observational facts into its framework. Discriminating between speculative conclusions and conculsions which can be drawn with a reasonable degree of certainty, it is found that no convincing proof of the Big Bang hypothesis exists today. Topics discussed include: a new approach to cosmology; the Hubble expansion and the density of the metagalaxy; properties of the metagalaxy at t= -H to the minus 1 power and earlier; models of hyperelastic collisions; cosmic microwave radiation; the metagalactic model; and the origin of elements.
