This paper reports the detection of the He 109-alpha lines in the two giant H II regions G 0.5-0.1 and G 0.7-0.0 and also confirms the detection of the same lines in the compact H II region Sgr A West, which surrounds the nucleus of the Galaxy. The source parameters are derived from both recombination-line and continuum observations. The He II abundances of the two giant regions are estimated to be much lower than normal, the abundance in Sgr A West is estimated to be nearly normal, and it is concluded that the total neutral helium abundance in the galactic center is at least normal, although an overabundance in Sgr A West is possible. The question is considered of why the observed He II abundances in the giant H II regions near the galactic center are so much lower than those in the giant H II regions of the spiral arms.
