An investigation of the possibility of fragmentation in collapsing isothermal magnetic gas clouds threaded by initially uniform fields was presented in earlier work by Phillips (1986). Here a selection of initially non-uniform magnetic fields is examined. The three-dimensional numerical method developed and tested by Phillips and Monaghan (1985) was used. The results found here are little different from those already discovered when the initial field was uniform. The cloud showed no signs of fragmentation during the first 1 to 2 free-fall times.
