Prognoz-7 and ISEE data are used to examine reconnection-related phenomena in the tail part of the magnetopause which occur in a limited region near the cusp. In the case of quasi-stationary reconnections, the region of reconnected lines encompasses (due to flux transport) a significant part of the magnetotail and can produce oscillations of the entire tail. Plasma injection below the magnetopause induces boundary oscillations, having the character of a surface wave and propagating in the antisolar direction. Reconnections which occur on tail lines in the cusp region affect the character of convection in the polar region.
