Several sets of photoelectric observations of MR Cyg and u Her are analyzed simultaneously by computer in an attempt to obtain geometric elements that would reproduce all the observations. (O-C) diagrams are plotted which indicate that MR Cyg apparently experienced an abrupt period change around 1966, while u Her seems not to have undergone a change of period in the nearly 100 years covered by the observations. Theoretical light curves are calculated using seven different sets of elements for MR Cyg and three sets for u Her. It is found that no single set of photometric elements can be determined for MR Cyg from the presently available light curves and that a mass ratio cannot be determined for u Her from the photometry. Absolute dimensions are given for both systems on the basis of previously computed mass functions. It is suggested that u Her and MR Cyg are quite similar and that MR Cyg cannot be regarded as a normal detached system since the secondary component is further evolved than the primary and seems to be well-outside the main-sequence band. A semidetached model for MR Cyg is proposed as the best alternative, and some properties of several Algol-type systems are intercompared.
