The calculation of the expected space density of white dwarfs is explained, and two sets of calculations are compared. The results show that the expected number of objects of the temperature of Feige 24 (70,000 K) is between 5 and 15, depending on the cooling theory used. Thus the theoretical data are in accord with observational data which establish that there are several hot white dwarfs (32,000 K or hotter) within approximately 100 pc. The high space density of hot white dwarfs might suggest that these objects are the primary stellar sources of EUV and X-rays.
