Through observations released by VILSPA/IUE data bank, the authors have
constructed extinction curves for the stars exciting M43 and NGC
1973-1975-1977. The analysis of the curves, together with polarization
measurements, indicates both the lack of small dust grains and the
presence of grains larger than usual in the surroundings of the stars.
