The author summarizes the scientific and technical ideas presented in the proposal for the LYMAN Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer. LYMAN is designed to answer a broad range of exciting questions in astrophysics that require high resolution, high sensitivity spectroscopy in the 912 - 1200 Å band and in the EUV, which cannot be answered by other means.
