While investigating the ultraviolet spectra of S stars, a hot compact companion to the MS star 4 omicron1 Ori was discovered. Fitting the continuum and L alpha profile to models and IUE observations of other white dwarfs, it is shown to be a DA3 star with Teff = 22,000 K. Assuming a luminosity equal to the field DA stars, M = -0.7 for the primary, somewhat fainter than M = -1.2 to -1.4 from other calibrations. In most respects, o1 Ori is an ordinary MS star, with typical values for the Ti/Zr, Li/Ca and Ti isotope ratios. One outstanding difference is the presence of Tc, which is not found in other non-Mira MS and S stars, but the secondary is not likely to be the source. Upper detection limits for hot companions to other bright MS stars are derived: HR 363, RS Cnc, ST Her and OP Her. The nondetection of evolved companions for these stars is consistent with the statistics of field giant binaries.
