The spectrum radio structure, and X-ray structure of the irregular galaxy M 82 are described. The significance of these emissions for the explosive star formation that appears to be occurring in the galaxy is discussed. The star formation is expected to continue for only some ten million years. The energy density of the interstellar gas in the M 82 galaxy is about 1000 times greater than that in the Galaxy, and is likened to an explosion which drives gas out of the galaxy.
