Abstract

VLBI observations of the active radio quasar 3C 454.3 at 6 cm are described, and a high resolution map of the object is presented. The results clearly show, for the first time, that superluminal motion of at least 20 c exists in the core and jet of this quasar. Comparison of the present observations with previous ones support the conjecture that the emitting body is moving relativistically in a direction close to the line of sight.
