A computational code for two-dimensional continuous flow in stellar atmospheres is presented. The code solves the nonlinear equations of ideal hydrodynamics. The theoretical foundation of the method is briefly described, and the hydrodynamic equations are given in characteristic form for two different types of nebencharacteristics. Each type shows outstanding features in many respects. Discretizations and programming strategies are discussed. Two different computational codes with second-order discretizations which are based on the two types of characteristics have been applied to some hydrodynamic problems. Test calculations of linear standing waves in an isothermal atmosphere and of highly nonlinear motions without gravity give information about stability and convergence. The results of calculations of nonlinear traveling waves and of hot gas bubbles in grey model atmospheres are presented in order to show the efficiency of the calculation code.
