The authors report the discovery of a second molecular cloud core in the dark cloud L 1641. Observations are presented for the J = 1-0 lines of CO, 13CO, C18O, HCN, and HCO+. The core exhibits broad CO wings, and contains a newly discovered HH object, two IRAS sources, and a near infrared source. An analysis of the H2 column density distribution shows a maximum density of ⪆104cm-3 and total mass of ≡150 M_sun;. An HCN map reveals that the inner dense part of the core is elongated with a size of ≡0.7 pc×0.4 pc. The authors suggest that the core represents another site of active star formation in Orion.
