Based on high-dispersion spectra covering the wavelength range 3050-6850 A, a model-atmosphere analysis of the Fe I/Fe II spectrum of Alpha Lyr is carried out. Departures from LTE are investigated using a model iron atom with 100 levels and 75 line transitions. For most of the Fe I lines NLTE corrections to LTE abundances of roughly 0.3 dex are predicted. Much smaller NLTE effects are found for Fe II lines. A substantial underabundance of Fe relative to the sun, is deduced. The microturbulence, if assumed depth-independent, is roughly 2 km/s, confirming earlier studies. This value is much larger than the convective velocities predicted by mixing length theory.
