Astrodynamical problems associated with projects where the baseline of the interferometer is represented by two (or more) free-flying satellites are considered. High terrestrial orbits, quasi-periodic orbits around the triangular libration points (L4, L5) in the Earth-Moon system, or orbits near these points in the Earth-Sun system are considered. It is shown that constraints imposed on the baseline and on the attitude control of the satellites require considerably more detailed investigations before the feasibility of the project can be assessed. The number of problems is multiplied if the number of satellites is increased for optical arrays in space.
