The author stresses the growth of high angular resolution (sub arc second) programs in the infrared, from 1 to 1000 μm. Ground based programs (speckle or two-telescopes interferometry) are currently producing interesting results. He discusses the future of these ground programs and shows that interferometry in space will improve the sensitivity, extend the wavelength coverage and open a new field in astrophysics, even with the current detectors and system performances.
