A classical spectroscopic analysis has been conducted on a small subsample of stars observed as candidates for the Space Interferometer Mission (SIM Planet Quest). The basic stellar parameters (Teff, log g, metallicity) for 434 candidate grid stars have been derived by Bizyaev et al. (2003) with the help of an automated pipeline. These parameters were obtained from a combination of 2MASS photometry and automated fitting of high-resolution spectra. The automatically derived parameters indicated that the search criterion did indeed select moderately metal-poor K-giants with a very high level of conficence. In order to verify the reliability of the pipeline technique, we have derived values of Teff, log g, and [Fe/H] by a classical, high-resolution spectroscopic analysis of a small subset of 10 candidate grid stars. The analysis uses a combinaiton of Fe I and Fe II lines with model stellar atmospheres. All of the studied stars have stellar parameters that identify them as red giant stars. These results bolster confidence in the selection criteria for the SIM grid-star candidates.
