A comparison of thee measurements of the duration of the day obtained by astronomical and space geodesy techniques and of the time series of the atmospheric angular momentum is discussed. A study of the correlated oscillations in the two series from 1976 through 1981 for periods from 30 to 400 days is presented. An analysis of the determinations of universal time obtained by the Bureau International de l'Heure in a homogeneous series over the years 1968-1982 indicate that this type of oscillation is quasi-permanently active in the atmosphere. It is shown that the recurrence time of these oscillations stays in the range of 20-60 days, that the preferred period range changes slightly with time, and that the total amplitude is generally under 0.001 s on the duration of the day.
