The authors report the discovery of a total of 15 carbon star candidates in the galactic centre windows. These objects were detected by their strong Swan bands of C2 in a green Grens survey with the CFH 3.6-m telescope. Three of them have been confirmed as carbon stars by IDS observations at the ESO 3.6-m telescope. These carbon stars are relatively blue and of low V luminosity, and exhibit a strong stellar Na I doublet. They do not fit into present schemes for stellar populations in the galactic centre and are either low-metallicity, relatively young objects or members of binary systems.
