We have measured classical morphological types and redshifts for nearly all galaxies above |{b}|=10o in the 2μ All-Sky Survey to a limit of {K}S=11.25. There are ˜ 20,000 galaxies in this sample. We find essentially no correlation between color and morphological type after correcting for extinction and the K-correction. However there is, as expected, a strong relationship between minor-to-major axis ratio and morphological type. We present an empirical calculation of the K-correction and find strong evidence of internal reddening in early type spiral galaxies. Finally, we present luminosity functions and their Schechter function fits.
This paper uses data from the Two Micron All-Sky Survey, a joint project of the University of Massachusetts and the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center/California Institute of Technology, funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National Science Foundation.
